  • Filter material for the removal of silicic acid (silicate) in fresh and marine water to prevent diatoms
  • Rinse, fill in filter bag (enclosed) and place in filter. Rinse after one to two weeks
  • Diatoms can form brown unsightly deposits on gravel, decoration material and plants
  • The JBL silicate test checks whether there is more than 0.4 mg/l silicate which leads to diatoms
  • JBL SilikatEx Rapid binds up to 30,000 mg silicate (SiO2)/ kg. Includes net bag and sealing clip

Clean and healthy water
Plant and food remains and metabolic substances lead to a deterioration of the quality of the water in the aquarium. Good water quality is necessary for healthy fish and plants. This can be achieved with various filters and filter materials. The filters suck in the aquarium water and remove the pollution and waste materials with the filter material from the water.

Fine filtering
SilikatEx removes silicate from freshwater and marine aquariums, thus removing the main nutrients of unwanted diatom algae (brown coatings), which often occur after the adding of freshwater. SilikatEx Rapid also removes phosphate and thus curbs the growth of other algae, and much more. The filter material creates biotope-like living conditions.

Distinction diatoms/slimy algae
Both algal groups can look very similar. But when you take them between your fingers you can feel the difference: slimy algae feel greasy-slimy even after rubbing them longer, whereas diatoms feel rough.

Diatoms are neither toxic nor harmful. They even form the nutritional basis for grazing cichlids in Lake Malawi and Lake Tanganyika. The algae can form brownish coatings which are regarded as unattractive and ought to be removed.

  • Silicate (silicic acid, SiO₂) causes unattractive diatom algae in the aquarium. Mains water often contains levels of silicates which create problems with diatom algae.
  • This filter material permanently absorbs silicate and phosphate, preventing the growth of diatom.
  • 1 pack (500 g) absorbs 5000 mg/l SiO₂ and is sufficient for 200-400 litres. For freshwater and saltwater.
